Spacious
‘Art as Idea as Idea’ by Joseph Kosuth hung above the couch in Siegelaub’s apartment in New York. On top the Irma Boom designed book on Siegelaub.
‘My gallery is the world….You don’t need a gallery to show ideas.’
Yet, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam dared to give her most spacious exhibition floor to a survey devoted to the life and work of the fascinating Seth Siegelaub 1941-2013). Gallery owner, curator, publisher, researcher, collector, bibliographer and archivist.
This exhibition is mind- and space-blowing. It is not only Siegelaub’s collection and ideas that take you on a flight questioning what is art, but also the way the space is used and his collection is displayed (exhibition design by Studio Nicholas Lobo Brennan and Astrid Smithham).
It doesn’t end there, to take home there is this beautiful book, designed by Irma Boom (who else) CATALOGUE-AS-EXHIBITION | EXHIBITION-AS-CATALOGUE
Happy to have the Stedelijk back inspiring and enlightening us. Lifting us up. Isn’t that what a museum and art should do? A must see (again) show at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
