Each leaf, flower, herb, pea and all grains of sand are different. Not one of them is alike. No insect, animal, stone or human being is the same. Everything and everybody is unique. What a Creation(s) we are!
The artist Herman de Vries collects and connects randomly fallen leaves, twigs, plants and other natural objects. He carefully positions them on blank pieces of fabric or paper, just like he found them, or neatly in rows next to each other. Framed and exhibited in museums and galleries he invites us to look again and see what is all around us with new eyes. Nature itself is Art.
His tribute to the earth is so pure, so true, so simple, so natural, so beautiful and seems so easy…yet is so vital…. now more than ever we need this reminder in a world with an overload of digital data and information flow.
Herman de Vries will represent the Netherlands at the Biennale in Venice 2015
His Earth Library, with more than 7.500 samples of sand, is permanently stored at the Gassendi Museum in Digne les Bains.
